About
About Us
McKnight Rural Consultancy Ltd was established by Ian McKnight in 2025, after several years of working on behalf of farmers and landowners across south west Scotland. This work included negotiating water, electricity, gas and rail access agreements, renewable project agreements, and associated compensation claims.
Ian is a hill farmer in south-west Scotland, farming Scottish Blackface, South Country Cheviot and Beltex sheep, alongside a fold of Highland Cattle. He farms in partnership with his wife Hayley, who also assists with the running of McKnight Rural Consultancy.
Ian has first-hand experience of wind farm access agreements, hydro scheme negotiations, water pipeline installations and power line upgrades. This fuelled his interest in helping others in the rural community to navigate their way through what can be crucial negotiations for those managing land.
Ian works alongside many legal firms who also represent his expanding base of rural clients across Scotland. This has helped build a robust network of contacts in both the renewable, and utility sectors.
